Lots of the bridges in Venice have padlocks stuck to them with messages. The idea comes from the novel “I Want You” by Federico Moccia whereby a couple write their names on a padlock, swear their undying love for each other, throw the keys into the canal and fasten the lock to the railings on the bridge.

Apparently the city officials aren’t too happy about this, but so far haven’t caught anyone in the act!
